Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Marseille in a Shootout to Secure Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now claimed the prestigious cup on 14 separate occasions.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown between the Ligue 1 champions and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger opened the net in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side fired twice late to take a surprise lead. First, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital leveler in the final moments to send the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping crucial attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and the young talent all converted with composure for PSG to seal a 4-1 penalty win.

The record champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the last 13 seasons.
